Renew library materials

Three days before an item is due, Siouxland Libraries automatically renews eligible items and notifies customers by text or email. Most library materials may be renewed three times. Exceptions are Rapid Reads and anything with a hold. If you wish to renew items earlier, follow the steps below:

  1. Log in using the link in the upper-right corner and enter your barcode and password.
  2. Click on your name.
  3. Click on the number of items you have checked out.
  4. Find the item you would like to renew.
  5. Click the "Renew" button next to the item.
  6. Watch the screen for messages that renewal was successful.

If you have fees over $10 or lost items, those must be paid before renewing.

Place holds

If Siouxland Libraries owns the item you want, you may place a hold on it. This will reserve it for you when it is returned to the library. When the item is available, you will receive a notice telling you that you can pick it up at the branch library you select. You can place up to 40 items on hold at a time.

You will need your Siouxland Libraries library card and the barcode number on the back.

To place a hold online:

  1. Go to the Library Catalog and search for what you want.
  2. Click the "Place Hold" button.
  3. To request a specific copy (for example, of a magazine) click on the "Edition Information" and choose "Place Hold."
  4. Follow the "Log In" prompt.
  5. Select the specific copy that you would like.
  6. Choose a pickup location.
  7. Click on "Confirm Location."

If holds are not allowed on the item, you will get a message telling you requests are not permitted.

To place a hold by phone:
Call 605-367-8700 or any Siouxland Libraries branch.

To place a hold in person:
Ask at the desk of any Siouxland Libraries branch.

To suspend a hold until later or cancel a hold:

  1. Log in and click on your name.
  2. Click on the number of requests that you have.
  3. Find the item you would like to suspend.
  4. Click on the arrow next to "Cancel." Choose "Freeze" to suspend until later or "Cancel Hold" to remove your name from the hold list.
  5. If you choose "Freeze," you will still be in line for the item but it will not come in for you until you choose to reactivate it or one year from the date that you froze your hold.
  6. To reactivate a frozen hold, follow the same steps as above, but click "Unfreeze" instead.
  7. To place a hold on an item again once you have canceled it, search for it in the catalog and place a new hold on the item. You will be placed at the back of the holds list again.
