If you haven’t been to Hartford, this is a great time to visit the community. Visit the Hartford Library Branch, then walk over to see the StoryWalk!

You may be wondering: what is a StoryWalk? A StoryWalk is a project in which a picture book is cut apart and posted page by page along a community walking path. StoryWalks bring together movement and literacy.

Siouxland Libraries has partnered with the City of Hartford to bring a StoryWalk to Turtle Creek Park. This will feature rotating monthly stories curated by Siouxland Libraries, promising new adventures for families. Aldijana Bonander, Senior Librarian at Siouxland, brought this to the Hartford community to provide families with this unique opportunity to combine exercise and reading in a fun way.

This project is a great way for families to enjoy literature together and get their kids excited about new books. The paved walking path follows along a creek in the park, with a dog park nearby for those furry family members.

Don’t miss the chance to read Unicorn Not Wanted by Fred Blunt this month and come back for a new story in June. This humorous western-style story details a unicorn who pretends to be a horse so that she can be included in the story. I took my own children to check out last month’s story about spring and they loved racing each other to the next post.

They are looking forward to checking out the May story, especially my unicorn-loving daughter. The books will be changed out monthly, and our family is planning on making it a regular part of our routine. I hope you can make it to check out the StoryWalk in Hartford soon and maybe even have your own family race to the next page!
