2017 Spring Hydrant Flushing Program
Starting Monday, April 3, 2017, the City of Sioux Falls Public Works Water Division team will begin their annual hydrant flushing. They will start on the north side of the city and work to the south.
The benefits to flushing include clearing the water mains of sediments, ensuring the fire hydrants are operational, and accomplishing flow testing of the water distribution system.
If crews have been working in your area, check the cold tap water for clarity before doing laundry. Users who notice discoloration should run their cold water faucet for a few minutes or until the water clears prior to use. Water discoloration due to the flushing program does not pose a health threat and may be used, but could cause staining.
Motorists should be aware of the presence of the field crews and avoid water flowing from hydrants.
If you have questions regarding water quality, contact the Water Purification Plant at 373-6950 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday or 367-8805 after office hours. More information also is available at www.siouxfalls.org/purification.
