Residents Encouraged to Sign Up for the 2023 Sioux Falls Citizen Planning Academy

Imagine what Sioux Falls will look like in 2040: Where will people work, live, and shop? Sioux Falls is expected to grow from 190,000 to 280,000 people. The metro area population could reach 325,000, and the city’s size could expand from 78 to 120 square miles. What will be our city’s challenges and opportunities for growth?

The Citizen Planning Academy empowers residents to gain a better understanding of community planning and development so they can effectively engage in neighborhood planning efforts. Those who participate will come away with an understanding of how city planning helps shape our community and the importance their engagement and participation in local affairs plays in the development of our community.

The academy will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Monday, October 2, 2023, and Thursday, October 19, 2023, at the City Center Building, 231 North Dakota Avenue, and online through Webex. Topics will include an overview of city planning, comprehensive planning, planning engagement, zoning, planning housing, planning roads, plus other items suggested by residents.

The event is open to the public. Residents are asked to register online by visiting www.siouxfalls.org/planningacademy and completing the registration form. By registering, Planning staff will communicate directly to attendees and tailor the academy’s subject matter to match individual interest.

Applications are due by 5 p.m. Friday, September 29, 2023.

For more information about the academy, contact the Planning Office at 605-367-8888, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
