85th Street and Cliff Avenue Intersection Reopens to Traffic

Following a summer-long closure of the intersection at 85th Street and Cliff Avenue, the intersection is now open to traffic. Work on the intersection will continue in the coming weeks, with final project completion slated for mid-October.

The intersection is located near the new Harrisburg Freshman Academy, which opens Thursday, August 24. This intersection is an important commuter route for the school’s staff, parents, and students.

“Opening the intersection before the Harrisburg Freshman Academy school year was a top priority for the teams on this project,” said Andy Berg, City Engineer. “We appreciate the great collaboration with our construction and school district partners, and hope staff and families can enjoy a smoother and simpler route to school with this new intersection.”

The $4.15 million project completely reconstructed the intersection and added a center median, turn lanes, sidewalks, streetlights, landscaping, and once the project reaches final completion, a traffic signal. City water, sanitary, and storm sewer utility infrastructure were also installed, along with several private utility upgrades.
