Mayor’s Fitness Court Challenge Rescheduled Due to Forecasted Extreme Heat and Humidity
Sioux Falls, South Dakota: In an effort to keep attendees safe, the Mayor’s Fitness Court Challenge has been rescheduled from Thursday, July 27, to Wednesday, August 9, at 5:30 p.m. at Rotary Park in eastern Sioux Falls (2408 East 26th Street).
With the peak heat index forecasted by the National Weather Service to reach 103°F on Thursday, the decision was made to reschedule the event. Mayor Paul TenHaken, Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation, and GreatLIFE look forward to coming together to celebrate the new addition of the fitness court, just on a different day.
The event will start with a few opening remarks from Sioux Falls leaders followed by a warm-up led by GreatLIFE to prepare the community to compete for various community records. Those records include most push-ups, longest bar hang, most pull-ups, and the newly added, longest plank. Records will be given out for each category for males and females in various age groups, including 13–17, 18–30, 31–49, and 50+. The record holder for each event and age category will be recognized on social media and receive a certificate and some City of Sioux Falls swag.
This event will also give the community the opportunity to try out the 28 fitness stations available at the fitness court. These offerings include exercise bikes, an arm-pedal bike, a cross trainer machine, box jump stations, push-up bars, pull-up bars, climbers/monkey bars, kettlebell stations, sit-up/abdominal benches, speed ladders, and agility stations. This outdoor fitness court along the recreation trail and the Big Sioux River can be used at no cost to the community, providing accessible fitness options to people of all ages. Additionally, users can download a free phone app from KOMPAN that provides detailed instructions on using the equipment's ability to generate and track individual workouts. Additional parking for the event will be available at YMCA Camp Leif Ericson or Pasley Park.
