PLAYGROUP

AGES: 2–6

Gather your friends at our “house” to play and don’t get your house messy. Our play groups are open for kids from infant age to prekindergarten age. We will provide the equipment and toys. Parents/adults provide the supervision. Not intended for child care centers or in-home care providers. A 5-to-1 ratio of children to adults must be observed.

CRAFT TIME AT PLAYGROUP

Once a month, we will be adding a little extra to our playgroup times. In addition to playing and burning some energy, your child will have the opportunity to put together a fun make-and-take craft. Crafts are free while supplies last. No registration required.

STRIDER BIKE SERIES

We are pleased to partner with Special Olympics South Dakota for Young Athletes Strider Program. This program gives kids ages 2–5 years old the opportunity to get the feel for riding a bike with the comfort of their feet on the ground. Bikes will be provided. Helmets are required; please bring your own. Registration required.

These classes will introduce your child to basic movement skills and encourage them to work on hand-eye coordination and spatial awareness. Parachutes, balls, and riding toys will encourage your little one to engage with other participants of the same age. Registration required.

KIDS’ ZUMBA

Looking for a fun, dance-based workout? Zumba is a mix between Latin and international music/dance themes where you get to exercise while also having fun with different routines and 60 minutes of nonstop dance moves. It’s an exciting and entertaining after-school program that will teach you fun choreographies each class. All levels are welcome. No registration required.

KIDZ AQUA FITNESS

Calling all kids ages 8 and up: Don’t let the adults have all the fun. Join this class and learn all the great water fitness moves. Let the fun music be your motivation as we move through the resistance of the water. We’re using noodles and dumbbells for buoyancy, so proficiency at swimming is not a requirement. Whether you already enjoy fishing, or would like to learn how to fish, this program is for you! Fishing is a great way to relieve stress while spending time outdoors. Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation will provide all of the necessary equipment for you and your family to have an enjoyable evening of fishing. Poles and bait will be available on a firstcome, first-served basis. Individuals 16 years of age and older must have a valid South Dakota fishing license. No registration required.

EARTH DAY EXPLORERS

ARROWHEAD PARK | AGES: 6–12

Get in the spirit of Earth Day by participating in Earth Day Explorers! Studies show that spending time in nature can reduce stress and anxiety and even promote emotional development in children. Participants will participate in an Earth Day service project, craft, and other outdoor-themed activities. Participants must be prepared to spend the day outside, wear closed-toed shoes, and bring a water bottle. Registration required.

PLANT AND GROW

MORNINGSIDE C.C. | AGES: 6–9

Children who garden have shown an increased level of responsibility, self-awareness, and a higher likelihood to eat healthy foods including fruits and vegetables. Participants will decorate a flower pot and then plant their very own flower in it to take home while they learn how a plant grows. Mother’s Day is right around the corner, and homemade treasures make the best gifts! Registration required.

XTREME MULTISPORT

MEMORIAL HOCKEY PEN AND FIELD | AGES: 6–11

Are you looking to challenge yourself? Are you interested in more than just the “normal” sports? Then Xtreme MultiSport is for you! Studies have shown that outdoor games improve the level of concentration in both school and work. This program will challenge you and your teammates through some of the most popular, strategic gym games being played today! You will get the opportunity to prove your skills and abilities through dodgeball, ultimate Frisbee, and capture the flag. Registration required.

RC SOCCER

MEMORIAL HOCKEY PEN | AGES: 9–12

Join us for our first-ever 4v4-style RC Soccer event! What is RC Soccer you ask? RC Soccer is a fun take on the popular game soccer where instead of moving your body to score a goal, you are in the driver seat of a remote control car trying to score a giant ball into a goal! Whether you sign up as a team or sign up to join a team, come prepared to control your very own RC car that will compete with your teammates in a friendly pickup game! Registration required.

JOJO SIWA DANCE & HAIR BOW PARTY

Join Just For Kix “JoJo Siwa” theme dance class. The class will begin with decorating our own hair bow. We will then move on to learn a fun dance from one of JoJo Siwa’s songs. The hair bows will be provided. We hope to see you there! Registration required.

MAP AND COMPASS TREASURE HUNTERS

ARROWHEAD PARK | AGES: 6–12

Will you be able to find the hidden treasure? Through this fun-filled treasure hunting adventure, participants will learn the basics of using a map and compass. Studies have shown that children who understand how to read maps have an increased level of spatial thinking, which is an important problem solving skill. All supplies provided. Please wear sturdy shoes and bring a water bottle. Registration required.

SELF-DEFENSE AND SELF-AWARENESS

Come learn the basics on how to protect yourself in different situations and scenarios. We will provide a comprehensive course on important topics such as situational awareness and managing personal and social harassment. Our goal for this course is to better prepare you to know how to react when faced with a negative situation. Registration required.

Are you missing being out on the football field scoring touchdowns with your friends? If so, gather your teammates and come play in this one-day flag football tournament! Don’t have a team? TOUCH RUGBY CAMP

MULTIPURPOSE FIELD AT SANFORD SPORTS COMPLEX | AGES: 10–14

Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation, in collaboration with Dakota United Rugby, offers a new program for touch rugby! Touch rugby lets players learn the basics of traditional rugby without the tackling. Instead, players touch their opponents using their hands or any part of the body, clothing, or the ball. This is a great way to gain hands-on knowledge of the sport known worldwide! Join us for this six-week camp! Registration required.

eSPORTS 2K TOURNAMENT

With eSPORTS more popular than ever, SFPR brings to you the first-ever eSPORTS 2K Tournament. Pick up the controller and start practicing with different teams, as teams will be selected the day of the tournament! NBA 2K19 will be the game of choice as you go head-tohead on the big screen. HYDRORIDERS

MIDCO® AQUATIC CENTER | AGES: 18+

The Hydrorider is a user-friendly water bike and is perfect for any participant or skill level. Training in water also allows training at a greater level of intensity due to the cooling effect and faster recovery rate. Work at your own pace and try a new cycling experience in the water. The workout will also include upper body strengthening and toning. Water shoes or socks required. Registration required.

STAY STRONG: FUNCTIONAL FITNESS

MIDCO® AQUATIC CENTER | AGES: 18+

This 60-minute Warm Water Pool class is designed to assist you in improving your strength and cardiovascular health. This light-tomoderate- intensity class format combines body resistance and water exercise equipment with light-to-moderate aerobic exercise. During the 60 minutes of instruction, class participants will strengthen their major muscle groups, as well as improve range of motion of all muscles and joints. Improvement of flexibility, balance, and stamina can be expected. The movements of cardio activity are different for every class in order for your body to receive optimal benefit for your physical health! Registration required.

Do you enjoy water aerobics? Let us challenge you a step further and take this fitness class into the deep water of our Sanford Health 50 Meter Pool! This challenging class incorporates high-intensity, nonimpact strength, and cardiovascular movements that provide one of the best forms of exercise. Deep-water aerobics are also great on the bones and joints! Participants must be comfortable in deep water. Registration required.

Learn and practice exercises designed to tone and strengthen your buns, hips, and thighs while tightening your core. This class uses only body weight and other movements to tone and tighten your body; all you need is a mat. Registration required.

FIRST AID, CPR, AND AED (ADULT, CHILD, AND INFANT)

AGES: 16+

This classroom course trains in basic first aid, adult CPR, and AED skills to meet OSHA requirements. This is not the CPR-required course for health care providers such as EMTs, nursing, physicians, etc. American Safety and Health Institute two-year certification and student manual included. Participants should bring a lunch for the 30-minute lunch break period. Course presented by Heartstarters. Registration required.

WATER AEROBICS

MIDCO® AQUATIC CENTER | AGES: 18+

Water aerobics is a low-impact exercise. The expected resistance of the water against your body helps tone your muscles and increase your strength. Water aerobics is easier on your bones and joints than running, but still provides the benefits of an aerobic workout. If you have arthritis, are rehabilitating an injury, or just enjoy pool fitness classes, water aerobics can help improve your health. Registration required.

SHALLOW TORRENT TABATAS WITH HYDRORIDER

This high-intensity fitness class will leave you breathless, taking cardio to a new level. FITNESS NUTRITION SEMINAR

AGES: 16+

Confused about nutrition? Can’t find a diet that works for you? Join us during this fitness nutrition seminar to learn about the pitfalls of common diets and to create a diet that is sustainable for your lifestyle. By learning some fundamentals of nutrition and how to adjust a diet to your lifestyle, you will be better equipped to finally find success. These fundamentals include energy balance, macronutrients, micronutrients, nutrition timing, and supplementation. You will also learn how to begin manipulating them to achieve your goals. ORIENTEERING 101

ARROWHEAD PARK | AGES: 12+

Cell phones can be very useful in helping you find your way if you are lost, but would you know how to navigate without one? The ability to use a map and compass can be extremely helpful if you find yourself in unfamiliar surroundings. After an introductory lesson to map reading skills and compass use, participants will test their skills on a preset self-guided orienteering course using nothing but a map and compass to find their way. Recommended for ages 12+. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Registration required.

Join in the fun Mondays and play games, socialize, and laugh with both older and younger friends. At any age, playing games is healthy for the mind and body. Join us for games such as pinochle, bridge, canasta, rummy, cribbage, backgammon, Scrabble, bingo, and pokeno—no need to play just one!

WHEN LIFE THROWS YOU A LEMON, WHAT’S NEXT? LIVING WELL WITH PARKINSON’S

MORNINGSIDE C.C. | AGES: 18+

Nearly seven years ago, Mary Tidwell and Mary Tranberg were both diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, a chronic, progressive disease for which there is no cure. They will share their knowledge of Parkinson’s and their journeys coping with the diagnosis, as well as how they feel friends and family can best support persons facing a chronic condition. Pie and ice cream will be served during the break. Registration required.

SENIOR SPRING BIKE TRAIL TOUR

Senior Bike Trail Tour

DUNHAM PARK | AGES: 55+

This experience is for those who are not able to explore our beautiful bike trail system on their own. Round-trip golf cart tours will allow you to experience stunning views of the river, parks, and wildlife. Tours will leave on the hour every hour, with the first tour leaving at 10 a.m. and the last tour leaving at 1 p.m. Participants must be able to transfer on and off the golf carts independently. Whether you are looking for friendly competition or just a good workout, water volleyball is both fun and challenging. Players must be able to comfortably stand in four feet of water. FAMILY FITNESS NIGHT

Get your family together for an evening of fun fitness activities. During Family Fitness Night, families will relay race through our inflatable obstacle course to see which family will receive bragging rights. The gym will then be open for family use only. Play a variety of games including basketball or volleyball or challenge your kids in a free-throw contest, Hula-Hoop contest, a scooter race, or a race to the finish line. Being active together as a family is the best way to encourage a healthy lifestyle. Registration required.

We have moved our annual Paws in the Park event to the springtime and to Family Dog Park! This dog-centered festival offers a chance for owners and pets to get together and socialize.
