Customers with wireless-enabled laptop computers, cell phones, and PDA's can access high-speed Internet at any of Siouxland Libraries’ Sioux Falls branch libraries (Main, Caille, Oak View, and Ronning).
How do I use wireless at the Library?
Before using Internet in the Library, be aware that you are in a public facility with other customers. Your behavior and Internet use must follow the Library’s Internet policy and rules posted throughout the library.
To use the wireless network, simply bring your wireless-enabled laptop computer or other device to the Library and turn it on.
Your laptop computer or other portable device will need to have a wireless interface card (802.11g.) Most Wi-Fi equipment will be compatible. However, the Library makes no guarantees as to the compatibility of your equipment with the Library’s network.
The Library's network configuration:
• Set your wireless network card to use DHCP
• SSID = Caille, Main, Oakview or Ronning
• Encryption = open
The Library's wireless access is through a cable modem which runs through a firewall. If you are running a firewall on your computer, it could cause problems connecting. There is no anti-virus protection. Disable your firewall at your own discretion.
If you need assistance, you may need to contact the company that sold you the equipment or the manufacturers of your hardware or software.
What are the advantages?
It's free! No time limits! No reservations needed!
What about security?
The Library’s wireless network is not secure. Information sent to and from your laptop can potentially be captured by someone else. The Library assumes no responsibility for equipment, configurations, security (including virus or Spyware protection), or any data files accessed while using the Library’s wireless network.
