In celebration of Read Across America, held in honor of the March 2 birthday of children’s author and illustrator Dr. Seuss, Siouxland Libraries will hold a drop-in craft activity at its branches in Sioux Falls. Children are invited to stop by and make a fun craft to take home, hear some Dr. Seuss books read aloud, play “Put the Hat on the Cat,” and watch some favorite Dr. Seuss movies, such as Green Eggs and Ham and Sneetches. This Dr. Seuss birthday celebration and craft activity will be held on Thursday, March 1, from 10 a.m. until 11:59 a.m. at the Ronning Branch and from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. at the Oak View Branch. The celebration continues on Friday, March 2, from 10 a.m. until 11:59 a.m. at the Caille Branch and 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. at the Main Branch.
Originally created by the National Education Association as a one-day event to celebrate the importance of reading on March 2, Read Across America has grown into a nationwide initiative promoting the importance of reading every day of the year.
